In this week’s class, we will be doing a project called “App Smackdown”. This involves us choosing an app that relates to our major, and creating a video presentation as well as a full review of the app we chose. For this project, I chose an app called PhysiApp. PhysiApp allows for users to have access to clinical exercises right at their fingertips! This app has crystal clear and professionally narrated videos to show you how to perform exercises correctly, gives you reminders, and even tracks your progress and feedback in real time. Overall, I find this app useful for anybody who is experiencing pain throughout their body but is not able to get treated at a doctor or practitioner. PhysiApp allows for treatment of the patient via video exercises, all through this free app.
In last week’s class, Professor Calderwood introduced us to Paper.li, which can be used to add much value to someone’s personal brand as well as promote influencers. Paper.li was one of the early content curation tools for taking social streams and placing them in a newspaper-style format. It also includes a killer daily tweet feature that is able to be configured to publish daily, or twice daily, and this can automatically grow your personal brand and drive engagement in your community.
There are many ways to grow your personal brand on social media. It all starts with a good base of followers, because if there is nobody looking at your content then what is the point of posting it? People who restrict their Twitter and other social media outlets soon realize that they would want to reach a greater audience than the one they have already curated, as stated in PrincipleJ’s blog called “Utilizing Twitter Lists”. For example, a teacher whose first year on Twitter was restricted to elementary principles soon realized that she wanted to share her ideas with teachers in all grades and departments. Twitter lists allow you to click and subscribe to curate more content without individually clicking through everybody’s profile. It saves the user a lot of time and allows them to connect with more people through the lists.
Professor Calderwood also showed the class Microsoft OneNote, and how it can be advantageous to our studies. OneNote “makes the list of best note-taking apps irrespective of which blog you land on”, and you can add texts, voice audio, video, and any other attachments you want into your notes. You can access handy keyboard shortcuts, grab texts from images, tag individual parts of notes, integrate with outlook tasks, perform math calculations, edit with embedded files, and a ton more through this Microsoft note-taking software. OneNote is truly empowering when the user takes advantage of all the features it has to offer. All of these tips and tricks will help us increase our studies, become smarter, and be able to project the information to our peers in a better manner.
