Modern Tips for Effective Presentations in 2020: Why is Microsoft Powerpoint Not It?

Clearing Clutter in Your Presentations | Synapsis Creative - Made in PowerPoint

For years, Microsoft Presentations have dominated the classroom, and students have gained countless amounts of knowledge from these Powerpoints. There are many other platforms, however, that people can use to create presentations in order to convey information to an audience. Examples of these platforms include Prezi, Google Slides, Canva, and many more. Switching up your presentations from the common, bland Microsoft Powerpoint to a new software could be the difference between a decent presentation and a fantastic one.

One of the biggest challenges that an entrepreneur faces is conveying their brilliant ideas to their audience for whatever reason, whether it be funding, a promotion, etc. A company’s success could depend on the quality of a few slides of a presentation, so it is key to develop these skills to be able to create a good presentation. In the 21st century, there are so many platforms for creating presentations so that an entrepreneur can craft their information any way they want to convey it to the audience. Instead of Microsoft Powerpoint, there are many alternative choices to make. Google Slides is probably one of the most popular. Similar to Powerpoint, Google Slides offers quick and easy tools that enable the user to swiftly create and share decks. Another platform to make presentations is Canva. Canva offers a wider range of templates, filters, and tools compared to Slides and Powerpoint, but it has some faults in functionality as a result of this. Prezi is another, and ranked as the 2018 most innovative of the best presentation software companies, it offers the user cheap presentation tools, and it is best-known for its zooming feature that guides the audience around the presentation. Other companies that are less known but just as effective include SalesHandy, DocSend, Haiku Deck, and Slidebean, with each offering their own unique set of tools for a user to create their presentation to their liking.

How to Change the Design in Google Slides - Tutorial

Although many people might not see any flaws with the original Microsoft Powerpoint, there are some key reasons as to why it has become outdated and replaced with softwares such as Google Slides. One reason is that Powerpoint is a little outdated in the collaboration category. The quick ability to share and edit that Google Drive offers is hard to pass up in comparison to the slow *.pptx that everybody is used to. Also, a simpler user interface drives simpler presentations. This makes sense because it is easy to get wrapped up in a presentation software that offers a lot of tools, and it would become easier for your reader to get lost in the Powerpoint, which would cause them to stop learning and defeat the purpose of your whole presentation. The ability of offline access and editing of newer softwares gives more of a reason for people to stop using Powerpoint. On top of this, the easiness and simplicity of access on multiple devices and the sharing software that companies like Google use put the “cherry on top” and entice people to switch over and start using their software. Overall, Microsoft Powerpoint used to rule the learning world, but is now seeing an age where other softwares are offering more and better features.

MessageOps – New Features Added to Sway for Office 365 Subscribers

As a response to the outdated Powerpoint, Microsoft released an “alternative” software called Microsoft Sway. This digital storytelling app is primarily used for presenting ideas onscreen, rather than to an in-person audience. The user creates a storyline and adds cards with different content that can be put into sections for better flow. This engine does a good job of creating smaller, quicker, on-the-go presentations, and although it may take a little longer to get the hang of compared to its Office siblings, Sway offers a unique interface to the user with simple tools that lead to quick, easy-to-follow presentations.

It is important to note that presentations have a monumental role in the entrepreneurial world. Presentations are often the make or break point of an idea, a company, or an individual themselves. Since everybody has an equal opportunity to dedicate their time to make the presentation the best it can be, there is no excuse for bad presentations in 2020 anymore. Just sit back, do some research, and enjoy the unique tools that these companies created for you to convey your brilliant ideas to the audience!
