As our semester comes to and end and we wind down to our final few weeks, we begin to look back at what we have learned and the key ideas that we have taken from the courses we were in. However, one class stood out to me in particular with the information that I learned and the content that I can actually apply into my life with a purpose and effect. This class was Stockton University’s GEN 2243 course known as Exploring Your Digital Portfolio. Professor Kyle Calderwood made this class an extremely interesting and diverse experience where we learned about modern digital tools that we can use in our future professional lives.

Opening Children Up to the Power of Technology, Safely

In Professor Calderwood’s course, we were introduced to a wide variety of digital tools that we are able to use in our current academic environment at Stockton, as well as in the future in whatever professional field we decide to pursue. Another big idea in this course was the idea of social media etiquette, which is the way that we portray ourselves to the social media world and how our image to the world can affect us in many different ways. Each Wednesday, Professor Calderwood opened up our class with an interesting introduction to the topic of the day, and the main thing that sets this course apart from others is the fact that Professor Calderwood introduced us to everything in a hands-on manner, and allowed us to create a small sample in whatever platform we used in order to get a good feel and understanding for the tools that we’re using. Professor Calderwood also stressed the importance of maintaining proper social media etiquette, and how to block out the things that would hurt your digital footprint in order to improve your professional image.

In Professor Calderwood’s Exploring Your Digital Portfolio course, we each developed our own Personal Learning Networks via Twitter in order to connect and learn from different professionals in our field of study. While maintaining our Twitter accounts and keeping them up to date, as well as blogging each week, we were reflecting on what we learned and continuing to learn more without even knowing it. It is important to keep track of the work in this class and submit everything on time, but if you manage to keep that on track, the class is very simple and extremely opportunistic in the experiences you can take from it. All of the tools and platforms we used in this class, whether it was for presentations, websites, or even virtual and augmented reality, each had their own unique advantages and all could be used in our future professional lives.

All of the knowledge and skills that I took from this course make me feel more confident and prepared to present myself to future professionals and employers in the future. Professor Calderwood always focuses on how these tools and skills can help you become a more successful individual, so the more you pay attention and take away from him, the more success and opportunities you will find in this class at Stockton University. There is no doubt that in 2020 we live in a world that is dominated by technology, so I highly recommend this course to everyone that is enrolled at Stockton University before they graduate.

The Use of Augmented and Virtual Reality at Work and School

Technology has become a part of everyday life for people across the world, and it is impossible to deny the fact that the digital world is going to take over the future. There are many key elements that go into the treatment of social media and the digital world, including the proper ways to maintain your persona online and how to use technology in a beneficial manner. Last week in class, we talked about the overall impact of new technology on the modern world, and how this technology can be used advantageously to benefit and learn in new ways we had never thought of before. The future of training and recreating scenarios potentially lies on the hands of virtual reality and augmented reality. Considering that there are many scenarios in the workplace that are impossible to recreate, training via VR could be the new norm of the future. For example, a trainee in the surgical field can only experience so much on a two dimensional level, which would never really give them a feel for what ...
